Engineering Day

Saturday’s event was about engineers of a different sort!

Ed explaining his fireman-ly
duties to two of the students

Organized by Karell Reader, a Cal Poly graduate student, this small but fun event saw a saw both seasoned and next generation mechanical engineers enj oying steam at the Santa Margarita Ranch. A dozen or so students and Lockheed ME’s were in attendance and enjoyed a day of train/cab rides and a program by Phil on the tourist railroad industry. The students expressed great interest and seemed to already have an impressive amount of knowledge on steam.

The crew for the day was Phil and Ed on the Vulcan and Brad conducting, with Jim putting a fire in the #3 just in time for the students to get to see it in action hauling a 4-car freight! In all, a fun event, and great to see more “fresh” interest in steam!
